May the LORD, the God of the spirits of all mankind, appoint a man over this community to go out and come in before them, one who will lead them out and bring them in, so the LORD’s people will not be like sheep without a shepherd.
A Prayer For Perseverence
Father, there is no one or no thing that deserves our complete allegiance, but You, our Lord, who have the words of eternal life. Though others may refuse to listen or turn away from the message of salvation we choose to persevere. We persevere in trial and in victory, in the ups and downs and in the in-betweens of everyday circumstances. We seek to do Your will in all things so that we will be richly rewarded at the end of this life. In the name of Jesus we persevere. Amen.
John 10:11
I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.
A Prayer For Spiritual Weed Control
Just like the persistent weeds, our enemy is ever on the attack trying to choke out the Word of God. Father, we thank You that we can go on the offensive recognizing that we can do all things through Christ who gives us strength. Help us to be vigilant in sin’s fierce war remembering that the crown awaits the conquest as You lead us by Your glorious might. Help us to do our part in keeping up with the weeds. Amen.
Psalm 138:8
The Lord will fulfill his purpose for me; your love, O Lord, endures forever — do not abandon the works of your hands.
A Prayer For Clarity In Our Witness
Father, we rely on the power of Your Holy Spirit to enable us to give a clear witness of Biblical truth and the Gospel message. We recognize that we must do this not only by what we say verbally, or display in our apparel, plaques, screensavers, or other means of witness. We must also present Your Gospel message by the way we live our lives. May our words complement our actions as we seek to reach this lost and dying world. In the name of Jesus we pray. Amen.
Matthew 5:10
Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
A Prayer For Faithfulness In A Decadent Age
Father, we read in Romans 1 that Your wrath is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of those who suppress the truth by their wickedness, that although they know Your righteous decree they do such things deserving of death, and they not only continue to do these very things but also approve of those who practice them. We are understanding this passage more clearly as we see deviancy celebrated and people who boast of their deviant lifestyles as champions of the “courageous” frontier where darkened hearts are hailed as those who have arrived to enlighten those who have drawn their standards from the Holy Bible. We’re also witnessing many who have exchanged Your truths as presented in Scripture for the lies presented by mortal and sinful humanity. We do battle daily with the lawless one so we must suit up in the Christian armor that will protect us from the continual assaults from the enemy as we uphold the standards set forth in Your Holy Word. Amen.
Psalm 78:72
David shepherded them with integrity of heart; with skillful hands he led them.
A Prayer For Making A Joyful Noise
Father, it must surely sadden Your heart that we’re quick to talk about the weather, politics, gossip or about the latest fashion, tool or electronic gizmo but we’re slow to speak about the Rock of our salvation. Why should we hesitate to be boisterous about the amazing ways You work in our lives every day when You forthrightly tell Your followers that You long for the praises of Your people. Jeremiah writes that “But those who wish to boast should boast in this alone: that they truly know me and understand that I am the LORD who demonstrates unfailing love and who brings justice and righteousness to the earth, and that I delight in these things. I, the LORD, have spoken!” You also give warning that the rocks will cry out in our place if we don’t give praise. Let us praise You foremost with our surrendered lives but also with our yielded tongues as we speak forth the praises of Him who called us out of darkness into His wonderful light. Now is the time to worship as we confess with our tongues that Jesus Christ is Lord to the glory of God the Father who is in heaven. Amen.
